There are many diseases that are associated with old age and as a person grows, more and more problems begin to develop. Moreover, as the world is advancing, human beings have started to survive less and less. Statistics have shown that on average human beings 15 years ago would live to the age of 80+. Nowadays, there are 30 year olds who are dying due to heart attacks, cancer or some such other disease. Dementia is basically a disease of the brain that is associated with old age.
Not all men and women develop it but some have a risk. As we all have repeatedly studied over the years that our brain has various parts and these parts have various functions. The frontal lobe is one part of the brain that controls a person’s behaviour as well as mood. The symptoms have many common occurrences with the symptoms of Alzheimer’s as well.
Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are two old age diseases that are very much interlinked. Frontotemporal Lobe Dementia has many complexities. It has been knows to occur at any time, any age and even gender which is why it is slightly different from other types of Dementia. There are various symptoms associated with this disease and the most commonly found one is change or alterations in mood, personality and behaviour.
This is essentially because Frontotemporal dementia has a direct link with the frontal lobe in the brain which of course controls mood and behaviour. Symptoms of Frontotemporal dementia also include significant impairment when it comes to social skills. This lack of being able to ac appropriately in a social setting can have quite drastic effects or consequences for the person who has this kind of dementia. Behaviour can prove to be inappropriate, bizarre, and even out of context. Inappropriate behaviour may include aspects like being too keen and enthusiastic with complete strangers, eating with one’s fingers when in a public restaurant, making strange gestures, and the list goes on. Other Fronto temporal dementia symptoms include the fact that the person becomes apathetic and lethargic. He or she may not have the same kinds of interests anymore, or like they used to when it came to a certain task. There is a huge change in activity level and the patient will be too indifferent to care.
Fronto temporal dementia symptoms have been known to include a significant lack of motivation as well. on the surface, this may look like depression but do not have sad or morose feelings when it comes to the patient.
